SAMHSA recently released a revised Federal Guidelines for Opioid Treatment Programs. Updated from the previous 2007 guidelines, the new publication contains best practices and modifications that include advancements in technology and service delivery. Treatment programs and service providers will find useful information on news ways to assess and counsel patients who are pregnant, withdrawing from medication-assisted treatment, or managing chronic pain. There is also new content on telemedicine, electronic health records, recovery, and FDA-approved medications including methadone, buprenorphine, and injectable naltrexone.
